If youâve ever wanted to live out your tropical dreams and travel with intention, Costa Rica is callingâand itâs saying âPura Vida!â I took part in a sustainable tourism course through Johnston & Wales University and guided by tour operator, G Adventures , and let me tell you: this wasnât just a trip, it was a soul-nourishing, rice-and-beans-filled, sloth-spotting kind of journey that changed the way I see the world.
At Celestial Hospitality, weâre all about curating travel that inspires and upliftsâand this adventure checked every box. â¨

We kicked things off in San JosĂŠ, where the streets are full of life, color, and culture. Local vendors, murals, and hidden cafĂŠs welcomed us into the Costa Rican way of life. It was the perfect launching point into what would become a magical and eye-opening adventure.
As we made our way to Quepos, a cozy town near Manuel Antonio National Park, we passed dreamy mountains and even caught views of natural hot springs from afar. It felt like nature was showing offâand we were here for it!
Quepos greeted us with jungle energy and ocean breezes, and it became the backdrop for some of the most meaningful parts of the trip.
Next up: a sustainable coffee plantation tour at Mi Cafecito in the mountains. We got to see firsthand how locally grown, fair-trade coffee supports families, protects the land and how they make business in the off season. Each cup came with a storyâand letâs be real, it was the best & freshest coffee Iâve ever had.
Letâs talk food. Costa Ricaâs signature dish, gallo pinto (rice and beans), was our daily breakfast bestie. Served with eggs, sweet plantains, or fresh fruit, it became a comforting staple and a reminder that the simplest meals can be the most satisfying. Can I put a little more emphasis on the fresh fruit ? The fruit there was so refreshing and tasty!
Our jungle walk with a local guide was straight out of a National Geographic episode. We tiptoed through the forest learning about native plants, rare birds, camouflaged frogs, and of courseâsloths, just vibinâ in the treetops. It was a full-circle moment to realize that by traveling responsibly, we help protect places like this.
âPura Vidaâ isnât just a phraseâitâs a vibe. It means pure life, but more than that, itâs about slowing down, living gratefully, and savoring the moment. Costa Rica teaches you that in the most beautiful ways. And trust me, once you feel itâyouâll want to bring it home with you.
